Our Story
Why flameless candleholders when the traditional candle market is already represented everywhere from grocery stores to airport gift shops? Good Question!
My family was fortunate enough to share the last the years of my mom’s life with her at in our home. My mom loved candles! She had multiple in her sitting room, a couple in her bedroom and even several in her bathroom to enjoy while soaking in a long bath. After her passing I was cleaning out her in-law suite and began noticing burn marks from the candles. Although they were in glass jars, some were purchased and some were “Mom designed” using glassware that she found pretty and using a candle. Soot and burn marks on windowsills, paint bubbling from heat on furniture. It struck me that we were very lucky that we had never had an incident with fire.
I inherited my mom’s love of candles. The flickering lights can really set a tone for a room and provide some serenity when needed. My serenity was broken in an expensive and dangerous incident. After purchasing a very large three wick candle for £50 (never paid that before or since!), I was going to get my moneys worth out of it. As the candle burned down I noticed how it no longer looked pretty in the glass:, soot, uneven burning in the wax and places where I had to dig the wick out. One evening after all the family was in bed I was enjoying the candle burning on the windowsill next to my chair. The popping sounds alerted me to something going on, but not in time. The large glass container holding the candle exploded, shooting glass all over the room and melting wax down the walls, between the radiator and on the wooden floor. Thankfully I blew out the wicks which were still lit and began to clean up the huge mess.
As I was cleaning up I began to think, “What if I had been in another room and not able to put the wicks out?’. I decided that flameless candles were now the only way for me. Except I didn’t like the look of a plastic flame. Or how the wax would hold on to dust. After playing around with my own favourite glassware I ventured into my craft cabinet and pulled out the material and notions I had inherited from my mom. That’s where Candlelight Hollow Shop began. Creating flameless candleholders that complimented my home decor and still allowed me to enjoy a flickering candlelight experience safely.
Whether you are buying for your home, a gift for someone special, or want to add that extra detail for an event please enjoy our flameless candleholders.
